Guy was born December 16, 1946 in East Orange, NJ and grew up in Cedar Grove, NJ, graduating in 1965 from Cedar Grove Memorial High School. In 1966, Guy enlisted in the US Navy and served for four years during the Vietnam War as an electrician mate on two mine sweepers, the USS Engage and USS Embattle. Guy loved his country and was very proud of his military service. He made many life-time friends to whom he was fondly known as "Rootbeer".
After his honorable discharge in 1970, Guy attended Ocean County College in Toms River, NJ and received an Associate Degree in Applied Science in 1972. He then worked at Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ until 1975 when he joined his father, Buck Sloat in the family business, Bearings and Brakes in East Orange, NJ. His best friend of many years, Steven Burde, joined him and together they ran the business until it closed in 1997. Guy then worked at Home Depot in Lakewood, NJ until his retirement in 2012.
Guy met his wife, Sharon in 1975 on a ski trip. They were married April 10, 1976 and raised two children, Aubrey and Tim in Toms River, NJ. In 2020, Guy, Sharon and Tim moved to Thornton, CO where Aubrey and her family lived. For the last three and a half years Guy enjoyed having his family together and being able to spend time with his granddaughters, Sydney and Zoey Weiland.
Guy loved boating, fishing, skiing and traveling with his family. He also enjoyed keeping in touch with his many friends and was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his kindness and generosity.
Guy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharon; daughter Aubrey Weiland and husband KC; son Tim Sloat; granddaughters Sydney and Zoey Weiland; step-mom Lillian Sloat; sister-in-law Nancy Kelly; sister-in-law Donna McConville and husband Danny; step-sister Cindy Sjoblom; step-brother Steven Zeiser and wife Debbie; several beloved cousins, nieces and nephews; his best friend of 70 years, Steven Burde; his best buddy, his dog Sierra; and many cherished friends considered family to him.
Guy was predeceased by his parents Ronald "Buck" and Ruth Sloat and step-brother-in-law Allan Sjoblom, Jr.
