Ethel Leota Shipley "Grandma Angel"

In 1946, she met Harold Shipley roller skating. On April 1, 1947 he proposed, and they married on August 28, 1947 in Perry, Iowa. In 2018, Harold and Oatie celebrated 71 wonderful years of marriage!

Oatie was a stay at home Mom until the boys started school. She then started to work at JC Penney’s in the shoe department. After working at JC Penney’s, she attended and graduated from Beauty School and received her Cosmetology License. Later she became a Cosmetology Instructor at the Beauty School.

She loved cooking, baking, traveling, camping, gambling, crocheting, reading and most of all family time.

She is survived by her sons: Dennis (Donna) Shipley and David (Pam) Shipley; grandchildren: Denny (Shelly) Shipley, Donelle (Chad) Guillaumin, Dezi (Travis) Hays and Mandy (JD) Daly; great grandchildren: Tyler Hays, Jordyn Hays, Emma Shipley, Justin Daly, Derrick Shipley, Mikey Daly and Jacob Guillaumin.

Oatie was diagnosed with cancer in November of 2010. With the help of her doctors and her strong will to live, she fought for 9 years battling cancer up until the day she passed on January 19, 2019 at the age of 89. She would like for everyone to pray there be a cure for cancer.

Oatie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Harold, her parents: Owen and Violet Finley, a brother Owen, and two sisters: Mary and Josie. “Grandma Angel” will be deeply missed.
