The Wilburn family was joined in heaven by their youngest and most vibrant member,
Emma Jean Wilburn-Grant on Monday morning, April 20, 2020. Our beloved Mother,
Grandmother and friend was born on April 16, 1936 to her parents, Arthur Wilburn Sr.,
and Maude Baity Wilburn in Porter, Wagoner County, Oklahoma. The Wilburn family
moved to Denver, Colorado in 1951, when Emma Jean was 14 years old. After moving
to Denver, Colorado, the family united with the St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church.
where they continued their Christian education and service. In 1954, Emma Jean graduated
from Manual Training High School. In 1961, she married James F. Grant in Denver, Colorado
and to this union were born two amazing daughters, Beverly Denise Grant and Elaine Jeauone
Grant.
Emma Jean attended Metro Community College, where she studied Business Education and
held jobs in sales, accounting, management, and banking. She eventually worked at Bank
Western in Denver where she retired.
Emma Jean Wilburn Grant was preceded in death by her father Arthur Wilburn Sr. (18 Aug 1977),
her Mother Maude Baity Wilburn (21 Sep 1990), her brother Melvin Wilburn (24 Jan 1990) her
sister Ruth Wilburn Harris (30 Aug 1990), her sister Thelma Wilburn Bruner Blue (22 Jan 1995),
her brother Alvin Wilburn (8 Jan 1995), her brother LeRoy Wilburn (12 Oct 2002), her sister
Ethel Wilburn McGuire (10 Jan 2014), her brother Arthur Wilburn Jr. (30 Aug 2016), and her
grandson Reese Devereaux Grant-Cobb (2 Jul 2018).
Emma Jean leaves to celebrate her homegoing James F. Grant, daughter Beverly Denise Grant
and daughter Elaine Jeauone Grant-Johnson; Grandchildren: Bryce Alexander King, Blayre Ashley King,
Tyler Elaine Johnson, Paige Jeauone Johnson, and Cameron Grant Johnson, all of Denver Colorado;
sister-in-law Reatha Wilburn of Las Vegas NV; 7 nieces, 6 nephews, and several grand nieces and
nephews.
The patriarch of the Wilburn family, Arthur Wilburn Sr., always gave this advice to his eight children:
“I want you all to always stay together. I don’t mean you have to “bunch up” in one place. One may
be in New York, and one in California, but stay together”.
