Donald Vernon Johnson, age 91, passed away on March 22, 2022 at Lutheran Hospital in Denver, Colorado after a short illness.
Don was born on March 16, 1931 to Earl Arthur and Lenora Marie (Schmitz) Johnson in McCook, Nebraska.
Don graduated from McCook High school on May 23, 1950 and joined the US Navy shortly afterwards. He was honorably discharged on April 1, 1954 as a Machinists Mate Third Class.
On December 25, 1952 he married the love of his life Mildred Louise Wisdom. To this union three children were born: Michael Don Johnson, Timothy Max Johnson and Cynthia Louise Johnson Ketels.
After Don was discharged from the Navy, he worked various jobs in McCook, Nebraska and Holyoke, Colorado. The couple moved to Denver, Colorado where Don went to work for Honeywell-Metrum and retired from the company as an engineer in production and Data Storage Systems.
After retirement from Honeywell-Metrum, Don went to work at Cold Creek Golf Course, a job for which he really enjoyed and gave him the opportunity to golf as often as he could. Don also enjoyed belonging to the Model A Club and going on numerous road trips with them. Another favorite pass time of Don's was fishing at Arvada Reservoir.
Don is survived by his wife of 69 years Mildred, brother Wayne Oscar Johnson, son Michael (Deb Lynch) Johnson, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was proceeded in death by his parents, daughter Cynthia Ketels, son Timothy Johnson and a brother Arthur Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at the Olinger Highland Mortuary and Cemetery building located at 10201 Grant street in Thornton, Colorado at 10:00 am on March 31, 2022. Viewing will be held from 8:00 am to 10:00 am with graveside services to follow funeral services at 11:00 am with reception to follow at 11:30 am at the mortuary building.
