Dan was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on November 22, 1942, to Harry and Myrtle Hassel. He had one brother, Harry, all of whom proceeded him in death. Dan is survived by his loving wife Linda, 2 sons; Mark (Lisa)and Timothy (Ellen); 4 grandchildren; Jennifer, Stephanie, Gregory (Taylor), and Hannah; and 1 great-granddaughter; Addeline.
He grew up in Grand Island and attended Kearney State after graduation. Upon returning home, he married his childhood sweetheart Linda, and they enjoyed a long, loving marriage. Together they had two boys.
Dan’s family was his ultimate pride and joy and he loved spending time with them. He had a tender heart for his grandchildren and invested a great deal of time in their lives; often being found at school activities or cheering from the sidelines of sporting events. He took great pride in his yard and loved tinkering around. He loved his sailboat, traveling, fishing, playing cards, his truck, and a nice bottle of two buck chuck.
He’d go out of his way to help family, friends, and neighbors. Even within the last few years you could find him helping to shovel walks.
