Carol, Grandma CJ, CJ, was born on December 23, 1942 in Seattle Washington. She entered heaven’s gates on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at age 79. Even though Alzheimer’s took her away from this world, her loving heart, strong faith and beautiful smile remain a beacon of light for all who knew her.
Carol lived in Seattle, Duluth, MN and Minneapolis, MN prior to the family move to Denver, CO in 1949. She graduated from West High School in 1960 with a major in art. She met her husband, Dick Quimby on a blind date in March of 1960 and they were married November 11, 1960. They later divorced in 1978. Together, they had two children, Jeff and Candy.
Carol first learned to use a computer in 1975, when she began working for Sears catalog store. This opened up an undiscovered gift and in 1979 she was hired for a Computer Assistant position, based on her potential, with the Bureau of Land Management. She began Community college classes in computers and worked up to Computer Programmer Analyst. She received several promotions and retired in 2010, from her position as a Project Quality Assurance Analyst with the Department of Defense. She was a dedicated employee who valued her coworkers as friends.
Carol loved the outdoors, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She learned to ski in her 30’s and she spent many weekends on the slopes with her children and friends. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and regularly attended their games. Some of her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Carol also enjoyed taking care of her home and her yard. She spent hours working out in her yard and visiting with her neighbors. If you were to visit Carol at her home, you would find a pantry full of vitamins, spices organized alphabetically, socks folded and organized by color and a freezer full of vanilla ice cream (her favorite).
Carol loved Jesus and she dedicated much of her time serving others through her church, Cherry Hills Community Church. She led the church’s singles group on outings of various outdoor sports; hiking, tennis, volleyball, softball and skiing. For several years Carol tutored grade school children through the Whiz Kids program; she taught Sunday school and she went on mission’s trip to Juarez, Mexico and the Czech Republic.
Carol is survived by her sister Marilyn Long, brother Chuck Parenteau, son Jeff Quimby (wife Pam), daughter Candy Temby (husband Jim), grandchildren Alyssa and Alex Quimby and Christian and Carson Temby; nieces Denise Sutton and Gina Sizer. She was preceded in death by her parent’s Louis and Edna Parenteau.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 22 in the Dixon Chapel at Cherry Hills Community Church, 3900 Grace Blvd, Highlands Ranch, 80126.
