Arthur James Bjorhus went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 11, 2020 in Brighton Colorado. He was born February 29, 1920 in Driscoll, North Dakota. He was one of ten children born to Arthur and Belle Bjorhus. He had a very happy childhood and, over the years, he would recount many wonderful experiences of growing up on the family farm. He would carry these wonderful childhood memories with him throughout his entire lifetime. The childhood nickname, “Murphy” was given to him by a hired hand on the farm who said he “looked like an Irishman” and the name stuck with him his entire life.
In 1942, Art married Esther Johnson in California after moving there to work in the shipyards during WW2. After enlisting in the Army, Art and Esther moved throughout California and the Northwest where their children were born, Duane, Dennis, and Judy. They were stationed in quite a few beautiful settings such as Monterey, San Francisco, and Hawaii. For most of his career, both military and civilian, he served in food services until his retirement.
Art loved to golf and play cards, he enjoyed woodworking and gardening. His most favorite activity was to swap stories with anyone he met. He looked forward to the many Bjorhus family reunions when he could gather with his siblings to reminisce and share stories.
In his final years, Art lived in senior retirement communities where he loved sharing coffee and conversation with the other residents. He enjoyed playing cards and billiards, Bible study, and caring for the community rose garden. He always had a friendly greeting for anyone he met.
Art is survived by two brothers, Russell (Margie), Norman (Irene), three children, Duane (Barb), Dennis (Ellen), Judy (Mike), eight grandchildren, Don (Val), Dale (Tami), Joe (Martina), April (Brad), Brett, Paul (Jessica), Tim (Beth), Amy (Delin), 16 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Esther, sisters, Bernice, Helen, Ruth, Betty, Jean, and brother, Don.
