Ann Steyer Hill was born in Valparaiso, Nebraska on April 24, 1922. She grew up with 10 brothers and sisters in the farm community of Valparaiso. She was the first child in her family to earn her high school diploma. Afterwards she moved to Lincoln, NE, where she worked at S.S. Kresege’s 5 & Dime Store. For entertainment she enjoyed going to dances whenever she could. After WWII started, she met the love of her life, Boyd Hill, at a dance.
On October 9, 1943 she and Boyd were married and raised 3 boys, Boyd Lee (BL), Rodney, and Craig. She encouraged all three sons to attend Sunday Mass regularly at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, as well as the mandatory Catechism class on Saturday morning. Ann and Boyd encouraged all three sons to attend school and earn their high school diplomas. They continued to support their sons to further their education by completing trade school or college.
In 1970 they moved their family to Denver, so Boyd could find more steady painting work. They bought a house near Westminster, Colorado. She has been a member of Holy Trinity Parish, since she moved here and would always go to the 11:00 Mass on Sundays very early, so she could get HER parking spot. She was also a member of her circle, which she enjoyed meeting with her friends for get-togethers. Thank you Kathy Sievley for giving her rides after Ann gave up her car!!!
For 20 years, Ann enjoyed working at the shop with Craig and Rod. She kept the books and customers in order. She loved visiting with everyone who came into the shop, whether for work or not. Being with family meant a lot to Ann. Most of the holidays and Bronco games were spent with Rod and family. She watched Rod Jr. and Bobbi become the great adults they are now. She was thrilled to see her great-grand-daughter Kennedy. She traveled to Virginia to visit BL and family. This way she could see how Dan and Andrew were growing into fine young men.
.
After her husband passed away in 1984, she began traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, Virgin Islands and to many places within the US. We have many pictures, showing how much she enjoyed her trips.
Within the last three years, Craig and Roberta have really helped Ann. While she lived at home, they either lived with her or stopped in three times a day to fix her meals and tend to her needs. After she moved to the Sterling House in Longmont, they went to see her usually every day. In the end, they moved her to their home, where she passed away peacefully.
We want to thank the staff at the Sterling House, as well as, hospice for all the love and care, which you gave to our Mom. She was very happy there and we were happy to have her there.
