Andrew was the son of Alferino and Secundina DeHerrera from Roy, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Evelyn DeHerrera, his two sons Timothy DeHerrera and Thomas DeHerrera, two daughters Cynthia Powell and Carol Maddan, 9 grandchildren; Shane Powell, Chelsey Barr, Tiffany Resendez, Matt Maddan, Savannah Boehmer, Christopher Maddan, Jarred DeHerrera, Liana DeHerrera and Terra DeHerrera and Amanda DeHerrera (Deceased), and, 11 great grandchildren; Calista Powell, Jaxon Barr, Zachary Barr, Hadley Barr, Josias Resendez, Mila Resendez, Amalia Maddan, Maverick Maddan, Kendra Maddan, and, seventy-five loving nieces and nephews.
Andrew met his soul mate and love of his life Evelyn in Roy, New Mexico while in grade school and they were married in 1956 after Andrew returned from military service in Korea. They moved to Denver, Colorado after marriage where Andrew had a successful 40-year career at Rockmont Envelope Company where he held several leadership positions.
Andrew had a strong Christian faith and belonged to Holy Cross Catholic Church in Thornton, Colorado. He loved sports, the outdoors, gardening, western movies and books and he worked out almost every day, but mostly, he loved helping people, whether it be his kids, grandkids, relatives, working at the Thornton Community Food Bank or simply helping a stranger or co-worker who was struggling. His dedication to his family, strong work ethic, high moral character and humble demeanor are admired by all of those who were blessed to have known him.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and caregivers, many of whom were privileged to witness his strength, courage and grace during the last few difficult days of his otherwise healthy and fruitful life.
A viewing will be held at Olinger Highland Mortuary at 10201 North Grant Street, Thornton, Colorado on Wednesday evening January 19th from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Andrew will be honored and his life celebrated at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Thursday January 20, 2022 at 12:30 pm. There will be a Rosary and viewing preceding the Thursday services from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm with the Rosary beginning at 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Andrew’s name to the Thornton Community Food Bank where Andrew was a volunteer for several years or directly to Holy Cross Catholic Church in Thornton, Colorado.
