Generous, loving, hardworking, and thoughtful, Al as he was known by all had a great sense of humor that brought joy and laughter to many who knew him.
Al was born June 22, 1932 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Henry and Lydia Deines. He married his wife of 54 years Caroline Ann on September 25th 1955 in Long Beach, California. Al is survived by his wife Carol; Daughter Theresa Deines; Sons David (Silva) Deines, Steven Deines; Brothers Karl (Gaylene) Deines, Herb (Ruth) Deines, Johann Deines; Sisters Dorothea Daubert , Olinda (Erich) Patzer; former Sister in law Priscilla Deines; and his pride and joy beloved Granddaughter Astrida Marie Deines.
Preceded in death by Brother in law Henry Daubert; Sister in law Mildred Deines; and former Sister in law Margaret Melone.
After graduating High School in Loveland, Colorado Al enlisted in the United States Navy and entered service at the Naval Training Center, San Diego, California in October of 1951. A veteran of the Korean War Al served at the Naval Air Station, Atsugi, Japan December 1951 – October 1952; USS Kearsarge CVA-33 an Essex class attack aircraft carrier, October 1952 – October 1953; Naval Air Facility Naha, Okinawa, November 1953 – November 1954; USS Ernest G. Small DDR 838 a Gearing-class destroyer, December 1954 – September 1955; Naval School Teletype repair, San Diego, California October 1955 – June 1956; CINCPACFLT headquarters Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, July 1956 – July 1958. Al held the rank of TE1 Teleman Petty Officer 1st Class and was honorably discharged from the Navy in July of 1958.
Returning to his native Colorado Al went to work at the 1st Avenue flower shop that was owned and operated by his Uncle Rudolph and Aunt Marie. It was there at the flower shop that Al developed a life long passion for flowers and gardening. The beautiful gardens that Al cultivated over the years provide fond and enduring memories for those that knew him well, his wife and children in particular.
From an ad in the paper Al became aware of new upstart company by the name of Xerox Corporation. They were hiring individuals with electrical and mechanical skills to install and repair their new invention the Plain Paper Copier Machine, truly a modern marvel at that time. With the Teletype repair experience gained in the Navy Al was hired as a Technical Representative July 22nd 1963. Thus began a long and rewarding career that lasted 28 years and ten months, retiring as a Technical Specialist May 2nd 1992. Al was highly respected for his impeccable work ethic, attention to detail, innovative and creative solutions and approach to problem solving, as well as his help and guidance to new employees. Over the years at Xerox many lifelong friendships were formed.
An avid sports fan with a typical “homers” affinity for the local Colorado teams he especially loved the Rockies and followed them diligently. This love of sports was a big part of his other passion, golf; Al absolutely loved to play golf and spent most of his adult life enjoying the spectacular scenery, wonderful camaraderie, and awesome challenge that the game brings. This too brings fond memories for many that knew him.
Most importantly Albert loved his Lord Jesus Christ, trusted him with his life and knew in his heart the peace that God’s love brings. A long time member and Deacon in the Church Al tended to the flower gardens for many years until he was no longer physically capable of doing it.
Albert will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him. He will be forever in our hearts, in our minds, and the gardens of our souls.
