My condolences to Tom's family and friends. I was lucky enough to know Tom through his work with Toronto Elections. He was always professional, always generous and always a pleausre to be around. Tom will be missed.

It seems like only yesterday when I first met Tom at the apartment building on Jane Street in 1985.  Always a smile, always joking around.  His enthusiasm for scuba diving and was contagious and I too became certified.  So many fond memories of times spent above and below the surface at destinations far and wide - Innerkip Quarry, Tobermory, Georgian Bay and Grand Cayman...

Tom loved being around family. There were very few family gatherings that he did not attend. He was a part of getting the annual Thanksgiving get together started all those years ago when there were still babies around. At those, he often wanted to be part of scaring the kids on the ghost walk that Catherine always orchestrated, and he played many street hockey games where he played on both the Deacon and Beamish teams over the years... Recently Tom and his family attended Jess and Jay's stag and doe, as well as the wedding-despite his health concerns. We are grateful for the time we spent with him then, as he even chipped in and helped out....remarkable.... It is memories such as those that we will remember him by. Tom was a very courageous and strong person throughout his battle, he was determined to live life to the fullest as he fought this illness head on. He loved you all very much and spoke often of your times together - trips, boating, pool. He was very proud of his family. He always had a smile on his face whenever I saw him, he made the most of every situation. He will be greatly missed by all. May his strength and love for you keep you strong at this time. I have fond memories of a summer evening spent on Lake Ontario with the four of you watching fireworks off of Ontario place and the generous welcome that you extended. I will always remember Tom as the guy who knew with absolute conviction that he had received he gift of a life and family that he had always wanted but didn't think he would be so fortunate as to receive. Tom and I first met at Vipond where we worked out of the same office. We both knew of the job posting for Toronto Fire but did not mention it to each other at Vipond. It was only when we bumped into each other in the parking lot of the Toronto Fire Academy just before the entrance exam that we realized that our work would continue together. It was at this time that I was introduced to Tom's roar of laughter, he seemed to explode when he saw me and instantly knew that we had the same idea. We both commuted in together every day during training, laughing, telling stories and drinking gallons of coffee. We were assigned to the same North Command Fire Station where we continued our training and both became good friends. Tom's smile and laugh were contagious, and I was always glad to meet up with him. I will miss Tom dearly.

I first met Tom in my capacity as the fire Marshal at Sunnybrook Hospital and Tom was assigned as my Inspector. During the time we worked together I came to respect, admire and like Tom. His professional competence, his willingness to share his knowledge his obvious delight in doing his job to the best of his ability was evident to all! Tom’s great booming laugh when something struck him funny will stay with me always. His grin and the twinkle that would appear in his eye when the absurdities of the job would creep up on us are things that continue to bring a smile to my face. I know that Tom enjoyed spending time in the pool or on the boat but the one thing that stands out in my mind were Tom’s love of life and his love for his family. I know its small comfort but if I can offer any words that can ease the pain of Tom’s lose it would be that people who live life to the full need have no fear of death. Tom will live on in his family and friends in each of us a little bit of Tom remains, making us better for it!

Our sincere condolences on the passing of Tom. We will miss chatting with him on the weekends on our visits to Tim Hortons. He always had a smile on his face and put up such a courageous fight. No more suffering...he will be missed.

Tom I will never forget you. You will be greatly missed.

Just seemed like yesterday Tom and the rest of our Fire Prevention class got together for the first time to train in 2000. The sense of friendship, hilarity and bonding we all formed into a second family. We may not have seen everyone as often as we would like after training being spread across the city, but when we did their is always a smile accompanied with a story to be told. Tom certainly fit into that statement when we crossed paths. He will be dearly missed.
