Platoon Chief North York Fire Prevention ( Retired ). Passed away on the morning of July 9, 2010 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto, Ontario. He was 89 years old. Beloved husband of Katheleen for over sixty five years. Loving father of Richard Thomas ( Rick ) Adair and his wife Julia Ashley Adair and Stephen John Adair. Grandfather to Ian Thomas Adair. Tom is survived by his older brother Fulton Muir Adair of Langley, BC and his wife Christine Sinclair Adair
He enlisted into the Royal Canadian Air Force, in 1941 and served with distinction for 4 ½ years as a Flying Officer ( Instructor ). Born in Palmerston, Ontario, he eventually moved to Toronto at the end of the war, and on June 6, 1949 joined the North York Fire Department.
He served with great dedication for over 33 years, starting as a firefighter, transferring to fire prevention, and retiring as Platoon Chief. He was actively involved with The Ontario Fire Marshall's Office, the Ontario Fire College, Seneca College Fire Fighting Training Course, and was a life time member of the Canadian Fire Safety Association.
Friends may call on Monday July 12, 2010 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home ( 6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles ). A celebration of Tom's life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Willowdale Presbyterian Church. ( 38 Ellerslie, Avenue ). Committal to follow at Westminster Cemetery ( 5830 Bathurst Street ). As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
