Thérèse McCarthy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Alice Thérèse McCarthy (Terry), on December 13, 2013 at the age of 96, at North York General Hospital. She was the loving wife for over 52 years of the late Group Captain (Ret'd) Joseph Porter McCarthy (1999). Terry was also widowed, after an all too brief marriage, from her first husband Jack O'Brien (1942) who was lost while valiantly serving his country during WWII. After a long and eventful life Terry will be sadly missed by her children Michael O'Brien (Joan), Linda Gobbo (Albert), Paul (Karen), Brian (Janice) and her last remaining sibling, Joan. Cherished grandmother to Christine, Liam, Sean, Ryan, Tara, Meagan, Patrick and great grandmother to Riley, Sloane, Oscar, Leeroy and Arlo. Born to Jeanne and Russell Hogg in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Terry was considered the 'matriarch' by Joan and her predeceased siblings, Russell, Isabel and Marguerite. Terry and Joe built a loving and happy life together taking their growing family to live in many far flung places and she was the consummate Air Force spouse. Terry will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews as well as a multitude of friends. The family would like to recognize the caring assistance provided by Amica at Bayview and CCAC during her final years. A visitation will be held in the Gathering Place at St. Gabriel's Parish Church (670 Sheppard Ave E., North York) starting at 9:30 am on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am. A light reception will follow the Mass in the Gathering Place of the church followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Terry was an avid and long time supporter of Share Life.
