Surrounded by his loving family and Rev. John Kim, Tom died peacefully on June 18th, 2009 at North York General Hospital, at age 87. He will be greatly missed by Mary E. "Betty" (nee Young), his dearest wife of 63 years, his children, Anne, Alan, and daughter in law, Shelley. He was a wonderful grandfather to Sidney Alissa, Evan Donald and Nathan Elijah. He will also be missed by many other relatives and friends, each of whom was very special to him. He is predeceased by his daughter, Alison Pearl, his parents, Rev. Sidney Elijah and Pearl Lambert, and his brothers Ted and George. In WWII, at age 17, he joined the Forestry Corps. He went overseas with the Governor General's Horse Guards and returned after the war with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. Tom had a 40 year career in the Ministry of Revenue of the Government of Ontario, prior to his retirement in 1982. He has been a faithful member of Willowdale United Church for 55 years. Tom enjoyed many winters in Florida and summers at his beloved cottage on Cameron Lake at Fenelon Falls, where he was an active member of the Cottagers Association. Visitation will be held at R.S Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St., at Goulding south of Steeles, North York on Sunday June 21st, 2009 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Willowdale United Church, 349 Kenneth Ave., Willowdale on Monday June 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Reception and Interment to follow. Memorial donations may be made to Willowdale United Church.
