February 26, 1929 – April 10, 2022
Our beloved mother, Shin Jah Lee passed away peacefully on April 10, 2022, in her 93rd year at Bradford Valley Care Community. She is predeceased by her husband the Very Rev. Dr. Sang Chul Lee whom she dearly missed after his passing in 2017. They were blessed to enjoy 63 years of marriage and were devoted to each other. She is also predeceased by her parents, Dr. Chai Choon Kim and Boon Nuagh Chang.
Our beautiful mother will be deeply missed by their three daughters, Irene Chungwha (Peter) Dirks, Grace Chungsun (Doug) Scott and Joy Chunghee Lee (John) Cappelletti. Proud grandmother (halmony) of Michael (Melissa) Scott, Michelle (Ken) Monoyios, Justin Cappelletti, Julia Cappelletti (William), Melanie Dirks, Andrea (Alexander) Harper, Jonathan Dirks (Angelica) as well as great grandmother (jeungio halmony) to Robinson, Eleanor, Charlotte, Tessa, Bella, Callie, Elise, Owen, and Quinn.
Her memory will be cherished by her sister Hae Won (Incheol) Chang, her brothers Eun Yong Kim, Kyung Yong (Hyo Soon) Kim and Kwan Yong (Chung Hee) Kim as well as many wonderful nephews and nieces, all of whom loved her.
Mother’s warmth, gentleness, generosity, humility, and kindness is legendary and she will be missed immensely by family and friends. Her trademark was always to think of others first. A most loving and gracious person, she was devoted to caring for others and led a faithful and joyful life. She never complained. She faced each day with humility and a thankful heart.
Our mother was very artistic and creative. This passion encompassed her creative writing, her editing our father’s eight books and more than a thousand articles, Korean brush painting, singing alto in the church choir for many years and her culinary skills.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff of the Bradford Valley Care Community, who provided outstanding care and compassion to our mother. She verbalized how thankful she was each day for all the people who took such good care of her. She often said, “How did you find this place? I am so lucky to be in such a good and caring place.” In turn, the staff loved her. She was gracious and kind to every member of staff and to other residents.
Although our family is very saddened by our mother’s passing, we are thankful for the full and rewarding life she had. We are happy that she is together again with her beloved husband and we know that they are laughing and hugging and looking down on us, sending us love and strength.
Visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home (8088 Yonge St., Thornhill) on Thursday, April 14, 2022. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:30 p.m. A private burial service will be held for the immediate family at York Cemetery.
