Peter Edwin Gardner Laycock passed away at the age of 72 on Tuesday, May 15th, 2012, with his family by his side. Loving husband of Dian. Extraordinary father of Pam, Geoff (Maureen), Greg (Lesley) and adoring grandfather of Madeline, Leah, Michael, Caitlyn and Charlotte. Brother to Foster and predeceased by his sister Joan.
Peter was born in Toronto and spent his early years in Toronto, London, England, and his favourite - Ajax, Ontario. Peter graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa, where he met Dian. From there he began an exceptional 35-year career as an executive with The Coca-Cola Company, working and living across Canada, in Atlanta, Georgia and in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Peter pursued many interests with great passion. He loved to golf, particularly at his "home course", the Bigwin Island Golf Club. He was an eager world traveller. He was an avid collector from a very young age, culminating with his proud service as President of the International Society of Antique Scale Collectors. And his most favourite activity was spending time with the family and dear friends at the cottage on Lake of Bays.
Peter will be remembered by all for his wonderful passion for life, his addictive positive attitude, his acceptance of everyone and his strong moral compass. He has been a powerful role model for his children and grandchildren, who will continue every day to follow in his footsteps.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25th, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street, North York, Ontario. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 26th, 11:00 am at Armour Heights Presbyterian Church, 105 Wilson Avenue, Toronto, Ontario.
The family would like to thank family and friends for their tremendous support over the past 18 months, with a particular debt of gratitude to Cathy Tremblay who was a core part of "Pete's Team" from the outset.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Peter's memory be made to the Freeman Centre for the Advancement of Palliative Care via the North York General Hospital Foundation as thanks for excellent care (416-756-6944). Special thanks to Dr. Risa Bordman and Virginia Clark Weir for going way beyond the call of duty to support Peter and the family.
