News of Myrtle's death hit the seven of us 26 Caracas boys via email. In days gone by of perpetual ball hockey games stretching from the Wiltshires to the McGourans there would have been no need for email or texting, had they existed. We walked along, knocking on doors. (The less-civilized among us just called out names - every name in 16, for example - in hopes of enlisting a goalie.) The Rogers winter rink was sublime, though the plywood protecting downstairs bedrooms meant 6 months of darkness for those kids. You didn't have to knock - just arrive. 

Arrive. 

Arrive is what John and Myrtle always did, the former smiling and boisterous, the latter smiling, petite and gracious. Both of them together, strong and generous. Now, together again!

But their imprints remain on streets-full of grateful ones. God bless every Rogers ... and all of us wannabes.

To my dear Aunt Myrt, you will be missed by many.  I have so many fond memories growing up as a kid and visiting you and Uncle John on Caracus Cr.  Even though you had a house hold you always welcomed me in to your home to spend time with Mary.  I can remember you going grocery shopping with Uncle John, I was amazed at the number of bags being carried in to the house.
You are being reunited with so many of my Aunt's, Uncle's, Nan and my father. It will be a special time in Heaven for sure.
