Born in Forrest, Manitoba, September 17th, 1921. Died peacefully, three months shy of her 97th birthday on June 24th, 2018 at Carefree Lodge, Toronto. Loving wife of Murray Stewart for 60 years, predeceased November 27, 2006. Beloved mother of Wendy (Doug), Gay (Brian), and Jon. Grandmother of Mark, Tracy (Jeff) and Heather (Oliver). Great grandmother to Paige and Carter. Predeceased by sister Winnie (John), and brothers Frank (Bessie), and Alex. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Muriel graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, in 1943. Moved to Toronto to pursue a career in restaurant management and worked at Eaton’s and the Royal Ontario Museum. Married Murray in January of 1946 and raised three children as long-time residents of Willowdale. Returned to work at Statistics Canada for many years. Travelled on numerous family vacations, summers in Port Elgin, and many of Murray’s painting excursions throughout Canada, Europe and the U.S.A.
She was an ardent bowler with the Willowdale Lawn Bowling Club and a past President. She also enjoyed weaving, knitting, gardening, and was an avid crib player, “perfect hand holder”, and Ontario Senior Games Champion. She loved cooking, Sunday dinners, reading, Cross Words, Scrabble and even a bit of golf and tennis. Visitation on Monday, July 2nd from 12:30 p.m. with Funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel at the R. S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street. Interment Tuesday, July 3rd at 2:00 p.m. in the Nairn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Lansing United Church, or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
