Predeceased by her parents; John and Gladys (nee Crowley) Hughes, husband Edward (Ted), beloved son John Edward, sister Gladys Riley and Aunt Vi. Dearly missed by children; Paul (Cathy), Christine Love (Joe), grandchildren Melissa (Donald Kirk) and Patrick Love, and Owen McKernan (Thanh Le), and three great-grandchildren.
Mavis was born Sept 11, 1928 in Croydon, Surrey, England, and emigrated to Canada after WWII, married, and settled first in Richvale, then in Willowdale (Toronto) where she lived to the present.
Mum took great pride in her independence, health and leading an active life; a homemaker whose baking skills were renowned, an athlete who earned Bronze Medallion and Platinum Award in swimming, a world traveler (China, India, Egypt, Kilimanjaro, Indonesia and multiple trips throughout Europe, USA and Canada), and a career woman who progressed to Credit Officer at NYME Credit Union and Commissioner of Oaths for the Province of Ontario.
Mavis made many friends, most of whom were friends for life. In her later years, mum enjoyed bridge, reading, all things British and most of all the affection and contact with friends and family.
Much gratitude to the NYGH nursing staff at 6 West, who made mum feel like a queen, forever attending to her every need. Thanks also to the Staff at RCC, who kept mum comfortable and pain-free in her final journey. Immense gratitude and love to Bienne Villanueva, caregiver and dear friend over many years.
