Toronto - A light has gone out in our world with the passing of Mary Eleanor Mathers, 86. She died at Sunnybrook Hospital June 4th, 2017 surrounded by her family. Beloved wife to John for almost 58 years, loving Mom to Theresa, John (Heidi), Paul (Sharon), Mary Patricia, and Super-Grandma to Brennan, Keegan, Eryn, Margaret, Michael, Mary, and David.
Mary Eleanor was born Mary Eleanor LeMoine May 5th, 1931, daughter of the late Joe and Kay LeMoine. Dear sister of Cathi LeFebvre and Joe LeMoine (Mary) and sister-in-law of Carol Bracken (Emmet, deceased), Natalie, and Bill. Predeceased by sister Brenda Lee, and brothers Peter and Mike (Ann) and brother in law Emile.
Mary Eleanor trained as a nurse at St. Michael’s Hospital, worked at Sunnybrook Veteren’s Hospital, and at Children’s Aid. Her life’s commitment was to her family and she took her own mom’s words to heart: “Love one another. Hold fast to that whether you understand one another or not, and remember nothing really matters except being kind to one another in the name of Christ and to all the world as far as you can reach.” Her biggest worry about dying was how she was going to keep on loving us all – her love was apparent in all her actions and she worked tirelessly to show it.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 2 -4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church (650 Sheppard Avenue East). Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sunnybrook Foundation Schulich Heart Centre are appreciated. (416-480-4483/1-866-696-2008).
