Born on July 1,1923 in Cremona, Italy, Mario was the son of Ottavio and Maria (Zambelli) Mariotti, He arrived in Canada in 1956 with his brother Giovanni and ultimately settled in Toronto. Mario was a pastry chef/baker, and worked 40+ years at the Little Pie Shoppe. He was married to the love of his life Assunta on August 19, 1961 and they remained inseparable until her death in 2000. In retirement, he continued with his many hobbies including being a handyman, feeding birds on his deck, surfing the internet, reading news, crossword puzzles, fishing, playing bocce ball, listening to classical music. He was proficient at playing the Mandolin and would, on occasion, play while sipping a glass (or 2) of red wine. In life, Mario always strived to be charitable, compassionate, and was the ultimate family man who enjoyed the company of loved ones.
He is survived by his children Diana, Robert (Teresa), Stephen (Maria Fernanda), Peter Joseph (Crystal), cherished 'nonno' to Christopher, Chauvin, Nicolas, Santiago and many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his wife (Assunta), parents, sisters (Valentina, Amelia, Gina, Lina, Andreina), brothers (Riccardo, Giovanni) and daughter-in-law (Karen).
A huge thanks to Diana who tirelessly looked after dad over the past 20 years. A thanks to Joe and Crystal who would visit regularly and include Mario in their many activities. To the Brotto family, we thank you for all the help and support - you have been a part of the family since Mario and Assunta met you in the early 70's. Finally, our gratitude to Dr. Jackson who was Mario's family physician for over 20+ years and would visit Mario at his house to tend to his medical needs.
