Most wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Margaret Ellen "Peggy" Chambers passed away peacefully in her 89th year on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Cummer Lodge. She is deeply missed by her children, Bill and Sharon Chambers, Wendy and Max Balaban and Bob Chambers; her adored grandchildren, Rebecca and Jeffrey Tannenbaum, Jeff Balaban and Annette Bourdeau and Michelle Balaban; and her precious great-granddaughters, Jordyn and Emma Tannenbaum. Her 'special daughter', Judi Cogan, shares in our loss. She is sadly missed by the family of her dearest late friend, Arthur Wilkins, including Donna Nabel, Deborah Van Londen and Art Wilkins Jr., Linda and Rob Siddall and Wendy and Ed Marks, as well as their children and grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and husband, Josephine and Jack Moore of Collingwood, sister-in-law Mary McCormack of Farnborough, and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Britain. The British war bride and former wife of William Chambers, who was stationed near her Farnborough home during WWII, Peggy arrived in Halifax in 1946 happy and eager to begin life in Canada. Visitation will take place on Monday January 24th from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street (at Goulding, south of Steeles). Funeral to take place at Peggy's church, the Church of St. Luke - Lutheran, 3200 Bayview Avenue (at Finch) for service on Tuesday January 25th at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment at York Cemetery. Peggy was a lifelong volunteer and supporter of community organizations and faith-based charities working with kids and young adults. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial tribute in Peggy's name to such an organization.
