At her side, as always, was her devoted husband of over 68 years, George, and all of her thankful children, Daniel (Penney), Paul (Cindy Lyman), Peter (Marianne) and Donna (Bruce Magee). Joan was predeceased by her brother Donald Bain (Elsie) and sister Thelma Platt (Johnny). She leaves a legacy of 10 cherished grandchildren and 16 amazing great-grandchildren, always supporting their individual paths and accomplishments.
Her imprint was far reaching, positively affecting friends and family across the country. She loved spending time with her one and only George, and the family, at their island cottage on the Bruce Peninsula, Ontario. Joan was an easy and loyal friend, maintaining strong bonds throughout her life, especially with her dear bridge club friends. Her varied interests and endless drive resulted in a life filled with travel, music, hobbies (e.g., painting, ceramics, woodworking, gardening, DIY projects), volunteering and being physically activity (e.g., exercise, skiing, snowmobiling, tennis, jogging, boating). Somehow, she achieved this while raising four kids, several pets and working as an X-ray technician. She was a lifelong learner and self-starter. Without guile, Joan exemplified openness, honesty, devotion and integrity. Although she will be sadly missed, her memory cannot help but stir happy thoughts and laughter.
A visitation for Joan will be held Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes, 8088 Yonge Street, Thornhill, ON L4J 1W3. A funeral service will take place on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 10:00 a.m., 8088 Yonge Street, Thornhill, ON L4J 1W3.
