In 1941 at Montreal Joan joined the Crutchfield family
Soon to be surrounded by siblings Connie (1939), Holly (1949), Mary (1950), Charlie (1952)
and 9 cousins.
Many happy years growing up in Shawinigan, Quebec then off to Toronto.
5 years of teaching and marrying the love of her life William Lyon Mackenzie King and getting a new sister, Kathy. The family soon grew with 14 talented nieces and nephews. Then came two beautiful sons, Bill King (1965) and Nelson King (1966).
Joan was honoured to represent the north/east of North York at the North York Board of Education (1980-1985), North York Council (1985-1988), Metro Council (1988-1997) and Toronto City Council (1997-2000).
In 2014 Joan organized a group to support Syrian Refugees. Today five adults, two teens and two little ones born in Toronto share a safe and happy home in Kitchener.
Joan’s life was kept balanced with golf, Ladies Golf Club of Toronto, canoeing, skiing, and curling.
Best of all were the 7 grandchildren Mackenzie (1992), Toby (1994), Brianna (1996), Graydon (1998) and Jamieson (1998), Mcallan (2000), and Cassie (2002).
Joan was blessed with a wonderful family and many great friends and colleagues.
At her request, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held when the pandemic permits.
