We remain very saddened by the loss of Joan.  We miss her warmth and energy, her love for her family and, in her public life, her wonderful ability to connect people and work with them to solve community problems.  She was a leader by nature, a voice of reason and, most of all, a dear friend.

I think of Joan often and I miss our talks as we drove together to visit our Syrian friends. I loved Joan's garden and have a lovely memory of wandering around the garden with her in 2022.

I met Joan at Ladies Golf Club more than 25 years ago. we served on the Board of Directors around the turn of this century. In this she demonstrated her experience from her council days.  I have played numerous enjoyable rounds of golf with her. This past year every time I played the 9th(formerly 8th) hole, I thought of Joan  when I passed the memorial tree she planted for family. I miss her. 

I remember Joan King as a competitive curler,  speedy bridge player and a liberal Liberal. Joan skipped women teams  who regularly beat men's teams. Joan had her bridge hand in place ready to bid while I was still sorting my hand. Joan and I canvassed her neighborhood on behalf of John Tory for mayor, even though he was a true blue Conservative. The City of Toronto and Mack lost a good person.

I will always think of Joan as the glue that pulled  our family together and for her sense of fun and her laugh and, and, and. 

I miss her so much but  wonderful memories will always be with me. 

My husband Alan and I were on the same cruise as Joan and Bill, and Joan's sister Connie, in November 2017.  It was wonderful to spend time with them.  Geraldine Sperling

I have many fond memories of Joan from the early days when we first met in 1962 throughout the many following years until recently because of the current pandemic. Joan was always fun to be with, upbeat, and capable of juggling many activities at the same time! I was truly saddened to learn only yesterday of Joan's death on January 27th and want to say I'm so sorry for your loss, Bill and family.

I first met Joan about 30 years ago when I held the first Willowdale Path Party in the East Don Parkland.  Joan was at the closing party at Leslie and Sheppard and was keen on meeting me.  She said I had to do it again and I said I would if she could provide help. She got Steve Kerper to help me nd we continued on for a couple of years.  She also introduced me to Adele Freeman at the TRCA and I joined the Don Watershed Council. From there it led to the creation of the East Don Parkland Partners of which Joan was a great supporter.  We ran it for 20 years.  When we moved to St. Catharines 5 years ago, Joan introduced me to Peter Elwood and Lookout Point golf Club, which I joined.  
Joan was always keen to help and always had great ideas. She will be sadly missed.

Joan was a wonderful supporter of the Vanier music department when Bill and Nelson were involved. It was always lovely to run into her and reminisce about the days when the boys were in high school.  My condolences to the family

Joan, or Nana, was a powerful figure in my life. I have countless incredible memories of time spent together and lessons learned from her. 

Whether we were away on an adventure, sharing stories, or siting on the couch doing a sudoku Nana made you feel you were the center of the room. Her kindness, generosity, and fearlessness will never be forgotten. She was a remodel and an inspiration; her influence helped to shape me into the person I am today. 

Thank you Nana, I love you. 

To Bill and family - Bob and I are so sorry for your loss.  Joan  has left you with 80 years of memories. A few times she showed us the books that she was preparing for family members to record a recent trip. Joan knew how important it was to have and to hold onto memories.                                                                                                        For us, Joan was a wonderful friend who would call and you would always know 'something's up' - there was a new project, or an idea, or an event she thought we should know about and do or be involved.  Joan's calls meant an adventure was about to begin. We will miss her friendship and for finding those adventures and treasure the memories she gave us. 

I had the pleasure of meeting Joan in Bayview Village as I watched her skillfully plan for sponsoring the Refugee family  and her  true joy of seeing them actually arrive in Toronto.  I witnessed how  she cared deeply for them  after their arrival in Toronto and did whatever in her capacity to support them in their first years in Canada. I also attended the wedding ceremony and  celebration for the young son of the family, that was hosted at Joan's house . I felt the goodness of her actions and how she applied all her skills and resources to the good of our community. Rest in peace Joan and thanks for setting the good example for all of us.

I will miss running into Joan on her daily walks. Her love for the community, her neighbors and the outdoors always stood out. May she rest in peace. She was the sunshine of Hi Mount. My condolences to her dear family and friends.
