James Oliver Bolsonello (Jim) was born in Toronto on October 7, 1936. He and his younger sister Marilyn were raised on a farm in Oak Ridges by their parents, Silvio and Grace Bolsonello. After studying photography at Ryerson, Jim attended and graduated from Radio College. In 1964, he began his career with CP Rail, working in telecommunications. It was a job he thoroughly enjoyed and at which he excelled until his retirement in 1994.
Jim married his beautiful German bride Leni on August 19,1960 and they lived in Willowdale for most of the 63 years they shared. In 1965, they welcomed David, and 3 years after that, Ruth was born. In the early 1980s, Jim and Leni invited Marty Camins into their home, where he stayed for many years while attending university. The addition of Dave, Miriam and his three grandsons, Caleb, Joshua and Ethan, completed the family he so deeply loved and cherished.
Jim enjoyed photography and animals of every kind. He was often seen patiently taking pictures of his "pet" bees, grand-cat Chico, and numerous family dogs. He loved gospel music and spent countless hours uploading music and recruiting actors to star in his annual Christmas videos. His greatest joy was studying the Bible, and he and Leni hosted a Bible study group in their home for twenty-six years. Jim was known for enthusiastically sharing his faith and Biblical insights with anyone who would listen.
Because of his failing health, he spent his last few years at Port Perry Place, where he formed friendships and received the best of care from the dedicated and compassionate staff who became a second family to him. The Bolsonello family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at the home for treating Jim like he was their own father.
Jim passed peacefully in his sleep with his favourite hymns playing in his room. He is survived by his loving wife Leni, his son David (Miriam), daughter Ruth (Dave), grandsons Caleb, Joshua and Ethan, sister Marilyn, and extended family in Canada, Germany and Italy.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Port Perry Baptist church on April 27. (2210 ON-7A, Port Perry). Visitation is at 10 am. The service will begin at 11 am. Lunch reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arms of Jesus Children's Mission.
