God called Jack Raymond Tucker home on September 10, 2012 at 7:35 p.m. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of this beloved soul in his North York home with his daughter Catherine, grandaughter Michelle and dog Gabby by his side. Born February 24, 1922, Jack grew up in East York, Toronto. At the age of 18, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy to serve in World War II. Much of his time was spent on the HMS Suderoy minesweeper between Halifax and the North Sea. In fact, his unit was featured on the front page of the Toronto Evening Telegram on Tuesday, September 21, 1943. During this time Jack fell in love with his future wife Edna Ross at a sailor's dance on the Danforth in East York. They wrote letters back and forth and married on September 7, 1946. Returning from the war, Jack was employed at Union Carbide working his way to the head office in the sales department where he enjoyed many years until he chose early retirement. Jack loved to spend time at his cottage at Orr Lake and enjoyed travelling to the Caribbean and Italy with his wife, Edna. He was a true nature and dog lover and had many of mans best friends throughout his lifetime. Last February, he celebrated a milestone birthday. His 90th was spent at home amongest family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Carol Silverstein, Jack's longtime family physcian, Day Medical Clinic, Freeman Palliative Care at N.Y.G.H., Rebecca Lee of Veteran's Affairs and to the many PSWs who made the end of his journey much easier. Jack Tucker was a wonderful family man and will be greatly missed, cherished and remembered by all those lives he touched.
