Dates: August 20th, 1936 - July 19th, 2015
On July 19th, 2015, our beloved Georgina, "Georgie," found peace with dignity, and grace. Beloved wife to her devoted husband, and caregiver Bill (grandson to J. A. Macdonald, Managing Editor of The Globe). She was a loving mother to the centre of her life, Heather Lemieux (Michael), Gordon (Karen), Bonnie (Mike), and Ross (Kelly), and devoted grandmother to Danielle, Patrick, Sara, Jennifer, Jamie, Hannah, Olivia and Nicholas, and survived by her brother James Massie (Lesley) and sister-in-law to the late John (Maggie), former Sports Editor of the Toronto Star, Betty (Bob). She was a caring aunt to Andy, David, Sue, Jim, Dawn, Bob, Gillian, Hart, Lauren and Alexandra. She will be missed by many family and friends. Georgie was raised in Toronto and predeceased by her parents, Rosie and James Massie.
Bright, lively and organized, she was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed family time and travel across Canada and abroad. After graduating from high school, Georgie was hired by Canada Life in the Key Edit Dept. for the start of a long and fruitful career. Georgie returned again after having her four children until retirement in 2001. Georgie lived her life with generosity and kindness. She was a Sunday School teacher at Fairbank United Church, where she and Bill were later married. She graciously volunteered at many organizations including; the Canadian Alzheimer's Association, North York General Hospital, Repeat Performance for Sunnybrook Hospice, York Mavericks Water Polo and proud supporter of the Golf Historical Society of Canada.
Profound thanks to Dr. Tony Lang, Dr. Tanya Wyman, Dr. S. Esmail, Daniella, and the other wonderful PSW staff at Bayshore Home Health, to Steve, her VHA Nurse, and also to Kelly and the Nurse Practitioners from CCAC for their dedicated care. Gratitude to our neighbours for their friendship and care over the years.
Summarized beautifully by granddaughter Danielle, "The best Grandma a girl could ask for. Thank you for teaching me to be kind, have fun, love unconditionally, and shop like a pro."
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North York Seniors Centre, PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) which is linked under the Parkinson's Society of Canada, or a charity of your choice.
A celebration of Georgie's life will be held on what would have been her
79th birthday, Thursday August 20th
at R. S. Kane Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
