Suddenly at North York General Hospital in Toronto. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Paulette (Polly). Will be forever missed by his daughter, Cheryl (Jim), grandchildren Shanondoah (Shaun), Daniel (Brianna), step family Sean (Nicole), Andrew, Evelyn and his treasured great grandson, Brandon, along with countless family and friends. He now joins his parents, George and Marjorie, and mother and father in law Norman and Marguerite Baker in eternal rest.
George will also reunite with brother and sister in law Richard and Victoria. His surviving brothers and sisters in law Donna and Joe, Robin and Linda, Michael, Helena will remember him for his countless kindnesses and sense of humour.
After a brief career in the military, George found his calling both as a salesman professionally, and as a family man at home. He became a father and then a grandfather at a young age, and took to both with passion and fierce loyalty. Family was George's first love, and those close to him felt that love every single day.
George was the rock of his family. A pillar of strength, he gave his time, attention, and love selflessly and without care for his own regard. From once saving a man from a fire, to the small kindnesses he showed those in his path, those who knew George will remember countless stories about his eternal, loving kindness.
A visitation will be held at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 8088 Yonge St on Saturday, April 22 at 12 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m., with interment to take place in his hometown of Halifax at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
