Dr. Franklin Wayne Furlong

On October 25th, 2022, Wayne Furlong passed peacefully at 81 years old surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 57 years, Barbara Jane Furlong (née Morgan), son Wayne (Lisa), daughter Lianne (Hillel), son Ian (Desirée), grandchildren: Emma, Amanda, Nicole and Michael Furlong, Hudson and Coleton Forbes, Giorgia-Grace Furlong, his devoted brother Richard (Dianne) and his nephews Michael and Jordan Furlong.

In 1964, Wayne graduated from University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine. He had a long and varied 53-year career in forensic psychiatry to which he was devoted. Wayne approached his professional life with genuine and immense work ethic. Important to him was his time on the Ontario Review Board. His personal life was as diverse as his professional. Wayne had a deep passion for learning and a vast amount of knowledge which he delighted in sharing with those around him. He was a man of deep faith and love of Jesus.

Many were touched and enriched by Wayne's love and respect of the natural beauty and gift of Stoney Lake. He was an avid and skilled canoeist, an enthusiast of all water sports and a lover of nature. Wayne’s cherished family cottage has left a generational footprint on all our hearts and remains home to our family’s most special memories. His love of life and family shone brightest in this setting. He was equally enthusiastic about his activities at the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club, on the slopes of ski hills, adventures in travel and the beauty of music.

It is with deep sorrow and love that we mourn Wayne’s passing. He will be lovingly remembered and forever missed.

Funeral will be held at St. John's, York Mills, 19 Don Ridge Road on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022, at 12:00 noon. Burial will take place following in St. John’s cemetery. Our family extends their gratitude to the caring teams of Palliative Care Mackenzie Health and Sunrise of Thornhill. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and St. John’s York Mills.
