Back then I was a close friend of a “Hin Tan” but subsequently lost touch. 

Dear Carlo,

When I stumbled upon this sad news, I realized that much time had passed since we last spoke, a few summers ago.

You had just returned from what appeared to be an enjoyable day of golfing when our paths crossed. You were upbeat & carefree, enjoying your lighter, yet active schedule.

And, during our impromptu get together old friend, it was quite evident to Barb & me that you were doing quite well - never showing or indicating a concern for your partner’s well being - who incidentally, had recently enjoyed time spent with much loved family, and a cherished new born!

The warmth in your home lingered. The remaining ribbons & balloons showed how special & loving the visit was for your partner, and you.

For us, a single, fleeting moment & warm memory.

But for you, we trust & hope it’s just one of a million moments of your loving home & life shared with your partner, Hin who clearly touched you and many others in his relatively short life.

To you, and to the rest of Dr. Tan’s family near & far, we’re very sorry for your loss.

My condolences to all his family & Partner it broke my heart when I found out tonight by taking my daughter to hospital & google to find his first name it’s a shock to us all he was a amazing family doctor he’s both my daughter for 17 years and husband doctor he always remember us every time we went u will surely be miss by us god bless

Dear Hin.   May you rest in peace.  

I wish your partner , father , and family a lot of strength the coming month with the death of Hin.

I first met Hin in 1992 when I started work at the Doctors Office on Danforth Ave. I found a quite yet very professional doctor. It wasn't long until i realized what an exceptional doctor he was. I watched him save lives, I watched him work most shifts without taking as much as a tea break and just eating a sandwich between patients. I saw him leave the office after working 10 hours and make a house call to one of his elderly or dying patients. I saw that he was loved by his patients and co-workers alike. I saw his integrity and the high ethics he held. I saw him treat the drug addict , the street walker and the CEO of some big company with the same care and respect he showed to everyone. I saw the love he had for Carlo. Every time his name was mentioned, Hin's face would light up like a little child at Christmas. I saw the love and respect he had for his parents and sisters. I saw the love he had for his friends and for mankind. I saw his passion for life, his love of the arts and great food and a good cup of tea. This man oozed love and compassion, though he probably didn't even realize what an impact he had on all our lives. I will miss this kind gentle soul. I will miss his big heart, his big beautiful smile and mostly, I will miss our friendship. RIP my dead friend.



Sleep well my friend. Lemon muffins you mad for my son will be etched in his memory forever. I honour you always. Move forward. Glad you were with family o your last breath.

Hin and I met 1994. Been my friend for many years. He is in a good place right now. Teng Hin Tan, that's what I have always called you. You have been a presence in my life since 1994. I miss you already. Thanks for the good times. Matthew remembers his first Cappuccino with you. Carlo made it in the special cup. Remember? Your colourful clothing and existence. Our rendervous at Byzantium for Martinis after work on Thursdays and later Woody's. So much fun. Halloween on Church Street. Those were the days my friend. Miss you. Thanks for being my friend over the years.Most of all, thanks for sharing Carlo. He is truly an amazing soul. Rest well. BTW, can you tell God Mattthew wants to be the best goalkeeper? Just asking. Hin always supported the arts and frequently attended concerts where I performed with his friend Steven Kettlewell.  My condolences to Carlo and to Hin's family.  Be at peace.  A donation has been made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society.

 We were saddened and touched to read about the passing of Hin.  To Carlo and Hin's family, please accept our condolences for your loss.

Our condolences to Hin's extended family and in particular to his devoted partner, Carlo.  Hin was a true gentleman with many talents, which he shared --  without reservation -- with the world around him.  He provided outstanding, professional health care to the Toronto community and always made himself available for that extra time with a patient in need, no matter the hour. Tomas is witness to that fact.

As a friend, he shared "both his virtue and his kindnesses", as we are reminded to do by the ancients.  Tomas was the fortunate recipient of that friendship for many years, and for me, more recently in the past two years.  I will never forget his elegance when we met at the Opera Bastille in Paris for one last savouring of Puccini -- and his generosity in sharing that moment in time with us.

And also for allowing us as friends to share that last, poignant Aria with his beloved Carlo these past few weeks.

I saw Dr. Tan almost every night when i went in to clean his office, he was my Mother's Doctor a great person. May his soul rest in peace my condolences to the family he will be missed.

To my friend and big brother Hin, who left us on August 11.
your friendship dear Hin, I considered as a garden that we loved, owned and other maintain, enrich, and refresh avery day, throughout the years, some 19 years.
Sometimes the colors were changing, from bright red to pastel yellow, always on a green background, the color of hope.
All along we picked the flowers and fruits of this unfailing friendship.
Today the garden is closed, and I am, just like you, terribly sad.
I cannot help but tell you where our friendship originated in Morocco, my country off origin, thanks to my dear friend Paolo, and the life.
Hin was a beautiful candle that destini put on my way of life, with so a beautiful light, generous parent that in my way..! this candle will remain forever..
Your advice, your laughter, your words,  your sense of listening,  your empathy will
always  resonate and cradle my fragile heart.  Dear Hin, your place is eternal in my heart.  You have always inspired my happiness, my joy, my success....you have encouraged me.
Today I continue being inspired by you with your generosity, your big heart....I am so grateful...Hin thank you for being the one you have been for me, for us.
To die is nothing compared to the intensity of our memories, in Morocco, in Montreal, in Toronto....
I think of you as the wonderful gardener of friendship and noble feelings.
It will remain of you, of your immense garden. a forgotten flowers, which is not faded.  There remains of you a fallen tear, a smile sprouted under the eyes of your heart.  

My dear Hin, continues to watch from above on your lover, your pearl Carlo who know how to accompany you, help you and soothe your suffering, and also watch over your lovely dad, sisters, nieces, nephews, Abdou, family and friends.
This departure is a door that slams but to go to see other beautiful landscapes.
So I do not say goodbye to you.
I tell you soon in the land of your ancestors.

Words cannot express our deep sorrow in the loss of this fine man. We grieve with Carlo and Hin’s family and pray they find peace in their beautiful memories of this gentle and loving soul.

Hin was a wonderful friend to go through university, med school and our group Europe trip with. Always kind, funny and interested in everything. The world will miss him.
