Doug was 72, lived in Toronto, Ontario, passed away on April 6, 2018 at North York General.
Doug was born to Raymond and Vera Coates on February 10, 1946. He went to Wexford Collegiate in Scarborough. He owned Durable Batteries with his father Raymond and later opened International Truck Delivery with his son Mark. Doug enjoyed many sports in his younger days playing basketball, baseball and hockey but in his later years hockey and lacrosse were his favourites. He was very actively involved with the Agincourt Lions Mens Club as a volunteer for many fundraisers and charitable community events. He Coached and was the Referee in Chief and refereed for both men’s and boy’s hockey for over 30 years with many different organizations. Doug was still active in the Lacrosse Community; he was a founding member of the Toronto Stars Lacrosse Association, Season ticket holder for the Toronto Rock and was still refereeing lacrosse in January of 2018.
Doug is loved and will be deeply missed by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Coates, son Mark, daughter Tracy, son in-law Sotir, daughter in-law Tammy and grandchildren Ben, Vanessa and Justine.
Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held at the R. S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street (at Goulding, south of Steeles)
on April 10
Visitation - 1:30 to 3:00pm.
Funeral Service – 3:00pm.
