Wife of the late Hugh Kelly, dear mother of Kevin and his wife Deborah, sister of the late William McBurney.
Tremendously proud of her Irish heritage, Dorothy’s home was always filled with reminders of her family and where she came from.
In her younger years, she was an avid painter, loved to dance and learned to play the bagpipes.
She married Hugh in 1955 and several years later, they welcomed their son, Kevin. Tragically, Hugh died in 1974 and Dorothy was faced with raising a young child and supporting their family on her own. She returned to work and built a successful career as an Executive Secretary, working at Fina and Petro Canada for many years.
Upon retirement, Dorothy spent as much time as she could in her garden, tending to her flowers and ensuring the bird-feeder was always full. She enjoyed regular trips to Yorkdale to browse at her favourite stores, and always had a crossword puzzle on the go.
While Alzheimer’s Disease gradually, relentlessly took her memories and abilities, it could never touch her true spirit. We are comforted knowing that, after so many years, she is free from that struggle.
Dorothy will be remembered for her strength, independence, and devotion to her family.
