Donald Reginald Shaw

At North York General Hospital on May 8, 2012, in his 84th year. Predeceased by his wife Patti. Son of the late W. R. Shaw and Lillian McBride Shaw. Don will be missed by his four daughters and sons-in-law Jodi Derry (Mike), Cindy Shaw-Aldred (John), Lori Baldasaro (Paul) and Penny De Piero (Randy). Cherished "Papa" to Shawn (Alison), Josh, Connor, Tamara, Ariana, Adam and "Great-grand-Papa" to Owen and Bria. Remembered by his nephew Brian Shaw (Debbie, David and Jennifer), and nieces Janis Keller (Gord), Liane Evanow (Pete), and nephew Michael Wilson (Julia). A graduate of North Toronto Collegiate, President and owner of Shaw Colleges, long time member of the Kiwanis Club of Toronto, the Royal Order of Jesters Court #83, Rameses Shriners - Founders Unit 1888, Past Master of Harmony Lodge and member of Zetland Wilson Lodge #86, and the 78th Fraser Highlanders. Don was an avid curler and long-time member of Thornhill G. & C.C. and a life-time member of the Granite Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, photography and spending the summers at his cottage on Lake Muskoka listening to Big Band music. A very special thanks to all the nurses on the 8th floor at NYGH, and to Dr. Benjamin Kaasa for all his compassion and caring concern during this difficult time. Friends may call on Friday, May 11th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street (at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Celebration of Don's Life is to be held on Saturday May 12th at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto, the Parkinson Society of Toronto or the NYGH Foundation, would be greatly appreciated.
