Dear Robin, Viola and Marina, Our sincere condolences on the loss of your Dad. Both Maria and I have fond memories of cousin Clary. I particularly remember the good times I had at the Niche whenever I visited Santa Cruz. Later on Maria and I were privileged to enjoy his company, love of music and good humor during several of his visits to Seattle. He had a large heart and was always willing to help those in need. He helped me by interceding with an acquaintance in the US Consulate, when I first applied for a student visa. We have carried on with one of the traditions we picked up from him and your Mom, i.e. to say the rosary out loud whenever we drive together on long trips. He and Jean are reunited again watching over you and your families and smiling. Love, peace and good memories forever.

Dear Marina I've received an email from Leela informing me of the sad demise of your dad. Basil and I send you and the family our heartfelt sympathies. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and we are sure that uncle Clary is with the Lord and your dear mum - may his soul rest in peace. Marina, it's years since we've met, however, it's great to re-connect with old school friends whom we've grown up with. I have fond memories of both your parents and of the good old days at school together and of all the get-togethers in Santa-Cruz. Dear Robin and Linda, Viola and Romesh and Marina and Benjamin, When U. Clary ascended to the bosom of the Lord, God said, "Welcome good and faithful servant, enter into paradise for all eternity. You loved me and you demonstrated your love for me by paying homage to me through your love for my people. All that you see before you is yours to enjoy." A. Jean and those of his family and friends who preceded him were there to envelop him into their embrace of love and joy. The feeling was nothing that earthly words or thoughts could express. Today was an uplifting day during which we (in our second stage of life as Robin put it) celebrated your Dad and U. Clary's life (he also belonged to us) and his passing on to his eternal reward, to which end he was born. I am sure that he and aunty Jean looked down on today's Mass, burial of his earthly shell and celebratory send off, with pride and joy. They looked down on their family borne from the fruit of their love for each other; children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and also the in-laws, with hearts bursting with pride and they looked into each others eyes and said "We did well". They watched the choir and sang along. When Fr. Simon started the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, Dad was ready to serve his Mass but Mum reminded him that his job and time on earth was over. Reluctantly but with understanding he acceded to her wisdom. Together they looked at all who came to pay homage and a movie of their lifetime interaction with each played before them and they felt close to all with the knowledge of the coming final and eternal reuniting. I have been blessed in my life to have a truly peerless role model. The strengths, values and beliefs he instilled in me at an early age, and continues to do so, serve me well in all my endeavors. I speak, of course, of my father, Robin Rego. I am writing this to express just how grateful I am to have had such a wonderful Grandpa, Clarence Rego, who in turn was chiefly responsible in helping to shape my father into everything he has become. I have so many fond memories of Grandpa that I hardly know where to start. He was unequaled in his optimism and unflinching cheerful nature. He possessed an amazing ability to put everyone near him at ease, and infuse them with good cheer as well, as if through osmosis. I remember the songs he used to sing to me and all the funny jokes he enjoyed so much, and the way I felt so loved around him. Looking back, the trait I admire the most about him is that behind all the laughter and levity, the generosity and selflessness, the song in his voice and the mirth in his eyes, was a pillar of serene strength. Through all the difficult times and travails he endured, that pillar remained unblemished and true. My life’s goal is to become a man like my father, and in turn his father. For of all the wonderful things Grandpa was to so many people, he was also an exceptional parent; a point which is plainly borne out by the continued success and happiness of his three children. While I am happy that he has arrived in heaven to stand proudly at Grandma’s side once again, I am thankful he left behind such a legacy as my father, the best advantage in life I could have. We are deeply saddened by the news of Clary passing away. As we join you in grief and offer our condolences, please indulge me as I take a few moments to celebrate the life of this great man. The memories of Clary keep coming back in waves of joy. My first introduction was years ago at Auny Ellen's. He was the bigger than life party man who did not hesitate to wear his faith on his sleeve. Merle and I owe it to his example that we say the rosary and other prayers whenever we sit in our car and go for a drive of over a few minutes. Clary and Jean treated us royally when we visited Toronto for the first time in about 1982. They were going through some hardships but that did not prevent them lavishing their generosity on us. After dear Jean passed away, we met Clary in Poona....still have the picture of Tony and Clary on one motorbike - ALL 140 plus years of them. Then, our family had a great exposure to all the wonderful special traits of Clary when he spent time with us in Coronado - his prayers, humor, music and as Vinod who just called, reminded us his exercises. I had a ball taking him and Tessa to Tijuana and sight seeing at San Diego harbor. Merle has kept up contact with Clary through the years till his hearing prevented meaningful converstions. Viola, Robin and Marina, You inherited a perfect match of genes from your beautiful parents. But genetics can only do so much. The lovely family life and devotion to the Lord has kept you united, loving and charitable. we are so happy he lived to see his grandson ordained. I can just picture him united with Jean looking down at all of us with GIVE ME YOUR JILEBI SMILE! So cousins, LET'S SHED OUR TEARS, THEN DRY OUR EYES AND CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF THIS GREAT MAN IN HIS TWEED SPORTS COAT A PROTOTYPE GENTLEMAN OF A BYGONE ERA. LOVE Merle & Denis

To Maria, (Ben) & family: My condolences on the passing of your delightful Dad. He would have made a superb high school principal. His voice carried authority and wisdom, yet was warm. He had a broad understanding of the world, and that came through in his conversation. In particular, I recall his asking good questions. On a few occasions he would ask,on a given topic, "what do you think of such and such, Dan?" If my answer had holes in it, he wouldn't say, "I don't think so", rather, he would respectfully inquire "but do you think, Dan, that such and such might be this way because..?" allowing me to respond, "Oh yes, of course". I also enjoyed his sense of humour, and his knowledge of big band numbers which he played on the harmonica. I think he may have done a little dance jig as he played, which added to the joy of the moment. May the Lord bless his faithful servant and take him quickly to his new heavenly home.

As a teenager, Uncle Clary became an example for me, watching the kindness and consideration with which he so consistently treated all around him; I will never forget the love he had for Aunty Jean and the gentleness they showed for each other. I was on a motorcycle trip on Friday. I woke up in my hotel (on the Nevada side of the Hoover Dam) at 2:36 am pacific time after a dream. I distinctly remember sitting up in bed saying "Uncle Clary died" then looking a the clock so I could remember to call Mum and Dad in the morning (which I did). In my dream, which was very, very clear, Uncle Clary thanked Cheryl and I for "our kindness when he had injured his eye and was in the hospital". I had an overwhelming sense of peace and wellbeing. I believe he said some other things that were not clear to me when I woke up. And then I woke up hearing myself say out loud "Uncle Clary died". I have never had an experience like this prior and have not put a lot of stock in stories like this; I'm glad he passed peacefully and is now with Aunty Jean. love, David

Clary's stay in Fulda(Germany) with us in the sixties-took a shower, pulled the curtain down - we realised the bath was not built for BIG guys. Carmen & Serena had a good laugh. Then to go back before you all were born. In Poona my Dad took a walk in the garden of our house with a tall handsome guy who wanted the hand of Jean D'Souza. Dad made his point and Clary had the road paved for the dating etc etc. You three are the results. God bless his soul - our prayers today (Sunday) for a place in heaven. Trevor and Marga
