Sarah was born in Thomasville, February 2, 1950, a daughter of the late Ernest J. Pope and Bertha Mae Sheffield Pope. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening and decorating her house for Christmas. Sarah loved hummingbirds, working with ceramics and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by a son, James E. Nealey; her step-father, Ernest Walker; two sisters, Barbara Johnson and Lindy Lewis and a brother, Harvey Pope. Sarah was a faithful member of Light House Gospel Tabernacle and loved reading her Bible.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, James B. Nealey; two daughters, Cynthia Bean and husband Mark and Kathy Nealey; two sons, Bruce Nealey and wife Leslie and Jamie Nealey and wife Cathy; three sisters, Beulah Amstutz and husband Gene, Lorraine Hicks and Betty Davis and husband Ronnie; a brother, Ernest “E.J.” Pope; fifteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Sarah’s Life will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Light House Gospel Tabernacle by Pastor Dale Elbertson and Rev. Jack Holder. Burial will follow in Hughes Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
