It is was great sadness that the family of Joy Lynn Harris (72) must announce that on May 12, 2024 she peacefully passed into the arms of her loving savior, Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her much loved husband of 46 years, Mackie Harris, her dear mother Icie Mae Hicks, and her twin brother Roy Glenn Hicks. She is survived by her loving children Summer Messick and Brian Harris.
Joy was born and resided in Bessemer, Alabama until her marriage to Mackie relocated her to North Carolina. Joy always considered herself to be an Alabamian and loved her family there very much. Joy’s greatest passion in life was being a wife and mother. Her family was always her first priority and worked tirelessly to care for her husband and children. Joy was a lady who was born to be a mother and quite simply perfected it.
Those who knew Joy will remember her as a larger than life personality who loved to do everything big. Holidays and special occasions were her specialty. Joy believed in living Christmas every day. 365 days a year you would find Christmas carols playing in her home and most likely some kind of cookie or cake in the oven. She was a passionate cook and her food brought Joy to so many people.
She was a very special lady who will be forever missed by all who knew her, most especially by her children who loved to tell her that God never made a better mother.
There will be a Service of Witness to the Resurrection for Joy at the First Presbyterian Church of Thomasville on Wednesday, May 15th at 11:00 am for all who would like to celebrate the life of this remarkable woman.
The family is under the care of Sechrest-Davis Funeral Home in Thomasville. Online condolences may be shared at www.SechrestDavisThomasville.com.
