Doc was born on February 22, 1927 in Yadkin County to the late James and Victoria Pelliet McKinney. He was a Christian, saved by the grace of God and a Veteran. For over 35 years, he had worked at Woodmark Originals.
He enjoyed staying busy, especially mowing and painting. Doc was a simple man who liked to visit his friends around town and eat at McDonalds.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph McKinney, Jr. and numerous siblings.
Surviving is his wife of over 64 years, Bonnie Newsome McKinney of the home; daughters, Nancy McGuire and husband Johnny of Lexington and Carolyn McKinney of Thomasville; sons, Ronnie McKinney and wife Kay of High Point, William “Jake” McKinney and wife Donna of Lexington, and Charles McKinney of High Point; eleven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Doc’s life will be held at 2:30 pm Friday in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street, with Doc’s son, Preacher Ronnie McKinney, and Pastor Jerry Whitehart officiating. Interment will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until the time of the service on Friday at the Funeral Home.
