Mr. Edward Frances Potter, 100, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.
Edward was born on July 13, 1915 in Staten Island, New York. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army as a Master Sergeant. Edward retired from the Philadelphia Bulletin, where he worked as a circulation manager that covered southern New Jersey. After his retirement, he worked for many years as a bus driver for the Ambassador Christian Academy in Toms River, NJ. He was a very godly man and earned recognition for Deacon Emeritus from the First Baptist Church of Toms River. His son brought much joy to his life as he followed in his father’s footsteps by joining the United States Air Force, later retiring as Brigadier General. Through his son’s accomplishments, Edward was able to travel to many different countries.
In 1991, Edward and his wife Mary moved to Thomasville, NC. Mary and Edward were dedicated members of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church. He was a very loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather and loved by everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Potter on February 28, 2004.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter and caregiver, Gloria J. Hunton, who never left his side, of Thomasville; son, Charles E. Potter of Virginia; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and his brother, Robert Potter of Long Beach Island, NJ.
A celebration of Edward’s life will be held at 6 pm on Thursday, July 30 in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street, with Rev. Bynum Orr and Rev. Jason Poe officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Edward will be transferred to Anderson-Campbell Funeral Home in Toms River, NJ and will be laid to rest next to his wife in West Creek Cemetery, West Creek, NJ.
