A resident of this area all of her life, Betty was born on December 24, 1943, a daughter to the late William Hugh and Hope Smith Chisholm. Betty was raised in Carolina Memorial Baptist Church, where she sang in the church choir since age 10 and served in the nursery for over 40 years.
Betty retired from Thomasville Furniture with over 37 years of service. After her retirement, she managed the Side Street Café at the Thomasville Emporium and volunteered at Thomasville Medical Center. She enjoyed cross-stitching, crocheting, traveling, sitting on her screened in porch, and flowers. Most of all, she loved her family dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Freddie Chisholm.
Surviving are her husband of over 57 years, Arnold Atwood of the home; son, Tim Atwood and wife Tina of Greensville, SC; daughter, Wendy Atwood of Raleigh; grandson, Tyler Atwood and fiancé Yining of Raleigh; granddaughter, Taryn Atwood of Greenville, SC; sister, Louanne Hill and husband Donnie of Thomasville; brother, Jimmy Chisholm of Thomasville; beloved dog and companion, Cooper; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Bynum Orr and Rev. Tim Landreth officiating. Due to COVID-19, her services will be lived streamed on the Thomasville Funeral Home Facebook page. There will not be a public visitation; Betty will lie in state from 12 pm until 5 pm Monday at Thomasville Funeral Home, 18 Randolph Street, for anyone wishing to pay their respects.
