William Robert Whittenburg (Bob) died at age 83 after a short battle with pancreatitis. He was born December 22, 1930 in Skiatook, Oklahoma to William Thomas and Ethel Bynum Whittenburg. He graduated from high school in Morris, Ok where he played football and was president of his class. Bob earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 15.
Bob served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army in Germany during the Korean conflict. He graduated from Oklahoma A&M (OSU) in 1955. In 1955 he married Jerry Lee Mullins, and they had two children, Russell Thomas and Lee Ann.
During his career from 1956-1995, he served as an engineer and executive for Conoco, Consolidation Coal Company, and Powerine Oil and as an energy consultant for the development of cogeneration projects.
He was elected “Outstanding Young Man of America” by the Jr. Chamber of Commerce in 1965. He was elected an elder for life at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, Ca in 1988. He was a member of the Woodlands United Methodist Church since 1990 where he served on the Board of Trustees and was a member and Chairman of the Mission Committee for over 15 years.
In 1975 Bob married Margaret Heffron Sigler, and they put their two families together for 39 years.
Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack and Jim Whittenburg, and his daughter, Lee Ann Whittenburg Myers. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Whittenburg; children, Russell Whittenburg and wife Barbara, Jennifer Harper and husband Gerald, Linda Withers and husband Bob; and grandchildren, Jocelyn Whittenburg, Jamie Whittenburg, Andrew Harper and wife Cali, Thomas Harper and wife Ginny, Luke Withers and wife Taylor, Joshua Withers, and Timothy Withers.
Bob’s life passion was driven by his love and relationship with Jesus Christ, his Savior and Lord. First and foremost, he shared that love with his family, friends and community. He was loved by all and will be sorely missed.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Forest Park Funeral Home in The Woodlands, I-45, South Conroe, TX on Sunday, July 27, from 5-7 pm. A service and celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014, 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Woodlands United Methodist Church, 2200 Lake Woodlands Drive.
