Bill was born in Goose Creek, TX and eventually the family settled in Navasota, TX. He graduated from Navasota High School in 1953. He attended Texas A&M and graduated from University of Houston in 1956 where he was President of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He met the love of his life Linda while at U of H and they were married in January 1962. Bill began his career in 1962 with Ducommon Metals and quickly rose to become General Manager of the Houston Division. He was employed by Hydril as Vice President of Sales where he was able to travel the world and later became Vice President of Russel Steel. In 1985 he founded W.R. Buchanan and Associates and remained its principal until his retirement.
Bill was an avid golfer, loved to fish and hunt and most of all loved his family. He was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a kind, compassionate man with a great sense of humor; he was a prankster, loved to tell jokes and talk about the "good old days". Bill remained friends with many of his high school classmates and college fraternity brothers.
Bill is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Kellye Clark and son Greg Buchanan; his grandchildren Peyton Clark, Leah Clark, Austin Clark, Preston Clark, Emma Buchanan and Sullivan Buchanan; sister Nancy Callaway and brother Dr. Terrell Buchanan and wife Cathy. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service for Bill will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, 18000 Interstate 45 S, The Woodlands, Texas 77384, followed by a reception immediately following service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The family has made a request of no ties to be worn to services.
