Coy was born on October 18, 1970, in Opelousas, Louisiana to Vincent and Madeline Richard. Coy and his wife of thirty- three years Tammy (Lafleur) Richard were residents of The Woodlands, TX. Their union blessed them with four beautiful children.
Coy was a strong yet gentle, generous, and loving man with a heart of gold. He loved his family very much-he was an altruistic dad. He always found time to provide extra guidance to his children, even as adults. He was very passionate about making sure they were taken care of.
It was this same fierce spirit that allowed him to face many challenges throughout his life with admirable strength and courage. These two traits were only a couple of his many prized attributes. He was a father to his children but also served as a role model and father figure to many young people along the way. From his witty banter to his philosophical words of wisdom, he was a teacher without a classroom.
Early in life, Coy learned the value of hard work and understood the importance of continued education. He completed his primary education as a graduate of Opelousas High School and was also an attendant of Louisiana State University at Eunice. Coy graduated from South Louisiana Technical College, TH Harris Campus with a certification in welding. Shortly after graduating, he expanded his skills by obtaining an advanced certification to begin his career as a combination welder. His specialty was TIG welding in special metals fabrication. Coy used his exceptional skills to master several welding techniques in a short period of time, allowing him the opportunity to quickly become the most trusted resource on his team. He was so proud to be a welder and always eager to extend advice to others with interest as well as those already in the field.
To further elaborate on Coy’s story, he was a man of strong faith; he worked daily to maintain a strong spiritual relationship with God. He listened to multiple Bible studies during the week and was so intrigued with the historical aspect of the Bible-particularly archaeological findings. He loved to share what he learned with others and often had spiritual conversations with family and friends.
If you knew Coy, you knew that he had a true passion for bodybuilding with aspirations of competing professionally. His dedication in this area was so strong that family functions would get put off at times until that workout got done! Overall, it was inspirational to witness just how driven he was; he had the heart of a lion. Amongst some of his professional role models in this area were bodybuilding legends such as Ronnie Coleman, Kevin Levrone, and Flex Wheeler. On a personal level of inspiration, his bodybuilding role models included Joe Ventress and Phillip “Iron Chest Charlie” Bordelon. As his wife, I have only seen these two men a handful of times, but I have heard about them throughout my entire life with Coy and am appreciative of the inspiration, motivation, and support they provided to help promote his endeavors in this area.
Finally, Coy. And. His. Grandchildren! Those babies were his lifeline and if he didn’t see or speak to one of them daily, there was an automatically expected frown on his face. They all have nicknames from Poppi: “the general”, “cheese”, “pop”, “wakadoodle”, and baby August, who was still waiting to get his. We’ll help Poppi out with that one! There is something undeniably special about becoming a grandparent and we were blessed with this privilege five times. He loved every one of these babies so very much, each one had their own special bond with Poppi.
Although we love and miss him very much, we understand that our time here on Earth is limited and know that Coy is now at peace. He will live on forever in the hearts of his family and loved ones. We hope that his story will be an inspiration for many and remain a beacon of light for us all.
Coy leaves to cherish his memories; his loving wife, Tammy Richard; two sons Christopher Richard and Benjamin Richard; three daughters Samantha Green, Ashlyn Richard, and Cierra Richard; five grandchildren Cohen Richard, Aiden Green, Kaison Thomas, Kruze Thomas, August Broussard; His parents Vincent and Madeline Richard; Siblings Dr. Dana Richard, Reginald Richard, and Eric (Carrie) Richard.
Coy is proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents Nolan Richard and Ethel Richard (Birotte), maternal grandparents Marie Thibodeaux Chenier and Benjamin Chenier; nephew Daegan Stallworth; Bonus dad R.J. Lafleur and grandmother Margie Babineaux.
A funeral service will be held at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home in The Woodlands, Texas on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at 2:00pm with visitation starting prior to service at 1:00pm.
