Steve was born on December 20th, 1955, to Richard & Linda Lovell in Houston, after which the Air Force took his family to Japan & Lubbock. They eventually made a wonderful home in Manito, Illinois where Steve stood out both in academics and sports. He first honed his business acumen at a landmark vegetable stand, where he grew lifelong friendships. After college he made his mark in retail, going from storeroom to boardroom, and spent his career doing what he did best: managing and growing world-class businesses and mentoring young professionals into executives. He was known for his ability to select, train, motivate, and grow exceptional teams.
Steve's passion was his family. With their good friends, he and Lisa built and eagerly shared “Green Acres Ranch,” home of a thousand precious memories and a place for hours of fishing, friendship, and family time. In addition to his generosity, kindness, and warmth, his sense of humor with a dose of sarcasm was legendary.
Steve’s family includes Lisa, the love of his life and his wife of 24 years; his daughter Taylor Johns and husband Jordan, daughter Jaime King and husband Bob, son Casey Stokes, and grandchildren, Davey & Wylie, who adore their "Lolli & Pop". His devoted siblings are Candy (Joe) Burch, Nancy Lovell, and Drew (Stephanie) Lovell. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Linda Lovell of Pittsfield, Illinois.
