Mr. Russell William Murray, age 97, of Spring, Texas passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022. Russell was born December 22, 1924 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He married the love of his life, Laura Wood Murray, on March 16, 1943. They were married for 73 years until the time of Laura's death.
Russell is survived by children, Pamela Murray Wright and Laura Janette Pilzer along with their husbands Taylor Wright and Ted Pilzer. In addition, Russell is survived by his grandchildren, Bailey Wright O'Leary, Matthew Logan Pilzer, Dylan Taylor Wright, and Natalie Hope Pilzer, along with two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Aislinn O'Leary.
Russell grew up in Glencoe, NC. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a medic in Australia and the Philippines. He earned a degree from University of North Carolina and went to work as a Special Agent for the Treasury Department. Russell had an interesting and exciting career with the Treasury Department, even flying as a Sky Marshall in the 1970's. When he retired from the government, he started a second career in Houston, TX as a tax consultant for Chamberlain Hrdlicka law firm. He told me that he never felt like either career was work because he enjoyed what he did. Russell resided in The Woodlands for the last 25 years of his life.
A celebration of life for Russell will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Forest Park - The Woodlands Funeral Home located at 18000 Interstate 45 S, The Woodlands, TX 77384 followed by a reception from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
