Born on August 25, 1980, in Los Angeles, California, Ruben’s warmth, generosity, and spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and loyal friend.
Ruben is survived by his beloved wife, Ruthann Herrera; his cherished daughter, Camila June Herrera; his mother, Hilda Herrera; his father, Gustavo Herrera; his sister, Alicia Atkins; his brothers, Gustavo Herrera and Estevan Herrera; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ruben was born and raised in California. He attended Canoga Park High School, where he was nominated for prom king and best smile. He studied at Cal State University, Northridge. Ruben worked for Anthem, Inc. for 23 years, where he met his wife and made a significant impact as a business advisor.
Ruben’s love for music, the arts, and technology defined much of his life. He created and engineered music, built his own computers, coded video games, and was the go-to tech expert. His talents extended to being a master Lego builder with his daughter and creating cherished family moments.
Ruben’s commitment to his family and friends was evident in every aspect of his life. His sense of humor, heart of gold, unique genius, and fiery spirit strengthened everyone he met. He was quick-witted, with a distinct laugh, and a remarkable sense of humor that brought joy to those around him.
Ruben was an avid Steelers fan and recently developed a love for F1 racing. His creativity and thoughtfulness were unmatched. He lived his life with purpose and passion, always with the best intentions and love for others.
He enjoyed being at home with his wife and daughter and he always thought of creative ways to make it fun and different; creating so many memories that will forever be etched in their hearts.
Ruben will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of family, and the importance of living each day to the fullest.
