Robert (Bob) Jay Westover was born on November 12, 1933, in Bremerton Washington, the second son of Kenneth and Edith Westover. Robert Jay Westover went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 90 on June 2, 2024.
Robert Jay Westover grew up in Pacific Northwest in Washington State and graduated from Nooksack Valley High School in Everson Washington in May 1952. Robert would go on the join the US Air Force in June 1952 during the Korean Conflict and would serve for four- and one-half years as a radio operator on the B-36 Bomber. In 1954 while stationed at Sheppard Air Force base in Wichita Texas my dad met my mother, Carolyn Yvette Teagle who was then attending Texas Women’s University in Denton Texas and they were married September 3, 1954.
They had (3) sons Robert Lloyd Westover born July 26, 1957, and died November 8, 2023, Philip Nolan Westover born July 4, 1959, and Jeffrey Warren Westover born June 13, 1962. Dad worked as an Air Traffic Controller in the FAA starting in January 1959 as an employee of the US Department of Transportation. My Dad decided to get a degree in Geology while working in Monroe Louisiana as an Air Traffic Controller from Northeast Louisiana University now part of LSU and graduated in May 1967 with a BS in Geology.
He was a devoted husband and a dedicated provider to his family, and during his career we moved to Houston, later to Dallas, and Shreveport as our dad ascended in the ranks of the Dept of Transportation as a GS15 with the FAA and later moving from Air Traffic Controlling to a Data Systems Specialist in the 1980s. He worked with Main Frames and other advancing technology that began to be utilized in the FAA for Air Traffic Control. His three sons all graduated from institutes of higher learning Robert Llyod and Jeffrey Warren from the University of Houston and Philip Nolan from Rice University. Robert retired from the FAA in December 1996 and Robert and Carolyn moved into their home in the prestigious Glenn Lock Farms neighborhood in the early 2000s. Our Dad served his Lord and Savior as a Gideon in the Gideons International after his retirement from the FAA handing out Bibles and gospel tracks near public schools, Universities, and other venues declaring the gospel of salvation by faith alone in Christ Jesus alone by the grace of God alone through Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. Robert and Carolyn were members of Christ Church Baptist Fellowship in Houston under Pastor Johnny Pope. Robert and his late wife Carolyn celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on September 3, 2021, and his wife Carolyn went to be with the Lord on September 16, 2021.
Robert is survived by his two sons Philip Nolan and Jeffrey Warren Westover and nine (9) Grandchildren and fifteen (15) Great Grandchildren with two more to be born this year as well as daughters in law’s, Adriana A. Westover wife of Philip N. Westover, Katherine Y Westover wife of Jeffrey W. Westover, and Kelly Westover the wife of her late husband Robert L. Westover. My Dad enjoyed visits from family and extended family, most of which live in Houston and the surrounding areas and he loved them all deeply and pointing them to salvation in Jesus Christ.
