1943-2018
Surrounded by his family, Richard Denis Powell, 75 of The Woodlands Texas, passed peacefully and went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 30, 2018. Dick was born on January 10, 1943 in Binghamton, New York to Elizabeth Jane and Richard Downing Powell.
He graduated from Seton High School and attended St. Leo College in St. Leo, Florida.
Dick started his career as a Police Officer with the Vestal New York Police Department. He changed careers and spent the next 48 years in the Industrial Equipment Field. Dick retired from Toyota Lift of Houston where he achieved the honor of “Sales Master.”
Dick’s greatest joy was his family. He was a caring friend and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and integrity. We will treasure the many years that we were fortunate to have him in our lives.
He is preceded in death by his father Richard Downing Powell; mother Elizabeth Jane Powell; and brother Rev. Thomas Michael Powell.
Dick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bonnie Carol Powell, three children: daughter Kristin C. Powell Kelly and husband Chris of Austin, Texas; sons Richard M. Powell and wife Cynthia of The Woodlands, Texas; Matthew D. Powell and wife Sheree of Tomball, Texas; brother Daniel and wife Cindy of The Woodlands, Texas; sister Mary E. O’Leary and husband Daniel of The Woodlands, Texas; sister Anne Tedino and husband Carmen of Raleigh, North Carolina; brother Joseph and wife Tammy of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; grandchildren: Nicholas, Richard, Luke, Samuel, Buckley and several nieces and nephews.
Dick was a founding and long-standing member of Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Parish in The Woodlands, Texas.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Simon and Jude Catholic Church on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 11am. Serving as Pallbearers: Daniel Powell, Joseph Powell, Daniel O’Leary, Carmen Tedino, Chris Kelly, Dick Dryer. Interment will be at Forest Park The Woodlands Cemetery, The Woodlands, Texas.
