She was preceded in death by her parents, by her brother Maurice Dozier of Stockbridge, Georgia and by Ben Rentz, her husband of 60 years.
She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Dozier of Smyrna, Georgia. She is also survived by her daughter Susan Gilchrist and her husband Jacques, and leaves a grandson, Jordan Gilchrist and his wife Jacqueline.
Rachel graduated from Bessie Tift College (1945) and later attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (where she met Ben Rentz) and graduated in 1954.
Rachel was a secretary/administrative assistant by trade, but she and Ben loved the Lord and served Him faithfully wherever they moved (TN, IN, AL, NC). For many years, she taught children or adults in church. She also delivered meals to the homebound, visited nursing homes, transcribed sermons, worked in the library and taught ESL to adults just to name a few. She brought comfort and cheer to those around her as she helped in whatever ways she could. She also delighted in God’s creation and enjoyed walks in the woods and working outside. Fiercely independent and a hard worker, she did not want to be a bother to anyone. When Ben’s health began to fail, she realized she would need help, but she continued to play a very active roll in lovingly caring for him when he was unable to care for himself, even during her last 2 years despite the fact she was diagnosed, and receiving on-going treatment, for lung cancer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30am on November 27 at Founders Baptist Church, 24724 Aldine Westfield, Houston, TX.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Samaritan’s Purse are welcome.
