Mick was born in Superior Wisconsin October 8, 1940 but got to Texas as fast as he could. His family moved to Arlington, Texas and he graduated from Arlington High School in 1958. He attended Missouri Valley State College in Marshall Missouri from 1958-1962 where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and was a member of the Tri Beta Honorary Biological Society. In addition he lettered four years in football, was All Conference junior and senior year, lettered two years in baseball (captain, senior year) and was selected Outstanding Athlete by Letterman’s Club (senior year).
Soon after graduating and marrying his high school sweetheart Ann Snider McLellan, Mick began his career with Dow Chemical. Working for Dow allowed Mick to travel all over the world but his goal was always to get back to Texas. After moving with their three kids from Texas, to Carmel, Indiana, then Midland, Michigan, Ann and Mick, both avid golfers, were able to retire to The Woodlands, Texas in 1995.
When frontotemporal dementia struck Ann in 2001, Mick was a caregiver until the disease finally claimed her in 2009.
Mick met his last love Gloria McLellan and they were married July 2013. When diabetes and bladder cancer finally robbed Mick of his independence, Gloria remained devoted to Mick’s heath to the end.
Mick was proud to be a Mason. Also, he was a regular at The Woodlands Country Club, his grandkids’ sporting events and choir performances, and alumni events for his alma mater Missouri Valley. He was passionate about MVSU and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2013.
Mick was preceded in death by his father Robert McLellan Sr., his mother Madeline McLellan, sister Bonnie McLellan, and wife Ann McLellan. He leaves behind his loving wife Gloria McLellan; sons Mike McLellan Jr. and Patrick McLellan; daughter Kate McLellan Walker; grandchildren Kyle Kirk, Colin McLellan, Madison McLellan, Ridgley Walker, and Sarah Walker; brother Bob McLellan; and sisters Janice Osborne and Sandra Pirkle.
