Matthew Don Dorman was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on August 24, 1981 to Barby and Terry Dorman. On August 3, 2016, at the age of 34, Matt passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a courageous and determined battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma. He is survived by his loving wife Jeanette, his brother Kris, his parents and many close friends and relatives. Throughout his life and even during his last days, Matt brought everyone together with his great smile, a remarkable sense of humor and endless entertaining stories to tell.
Matt and his parents moved to The Woodlands, Texas when he was two-years-old, and he lived there until he left to attend college at The University of Texas in Austin. Matt experienced his first bout with cancer as a senior in high school but he faced it head-on with the determination that only he had and beat it. As a college freshman, Matt joined the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and was an active member throughout all four years of college. The brotherhood that Matt formed with other DU members created lifelong friendships and never-ending memories. While attending college at UT, Matt’s love for the Texas Longhorns grew to be unconditional, and he never missed a home football game or an opportunity to wear burnt orange. He also was able to attend several away games as a student including the Red River Shootout at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas where he and his fraternity brothers brought one of the game balls from Austin. During Matt’s time at UT, he also met the love of his life, Jeanette. They were immediately inseparable and dated for six years before getting married in 2009. After Matt graduated in 2004, he and Jeanette continued to attend every home game and at least one away game every year. Even when Matt’s cancer returned in 2013, he refused to let it interfere with his attendance of UT football games. There will never be a prouder or more loyal fan.
After Matt graduated from college, he moved back to Houston where he became a financial advisor for Raymond James. A few years later, he went on to join his father’s oil field supply company, Total Depth Supply, where he excelled in helping build the company and established many lasting relationships throughout his 10 year career.
Matt loved life! His favorite pastimes and interests included hunting, fishing, golf and cooking. Some of Matt’s most exciting hunting trips included elk hunting in Colorado, bear hunting in Canada and deer hunting in the Texas hill country. An avid fisherman, Matt was often found fishing with his dad, brother and buddies in Galveston or anywhere the fishing was good. One of his most memorable fishing experiences was deep sea fishing in Belize. Everyone loved that Matt enjoyed hunting and fishing because it always meant he would then use his excellent cooking skills to prepare something delicious, whether it be fish, deer or elk. Matt took great pleasure in entertaining and cooking for people. One of his favorite lines was, “You’re going to eat good, and you’re going to drink good, but that’s all I can promise you.”
Golf was one of Matt’s other passions. He loved to play in Houston on the weekends with his dad, brother and friends. He also had several opportunities to play in places such as Pebble Beach, Las Vegas, Colorado and Costa Rica. Matt did not always win when he played golf with others, but regardless, he always had a story to tell and if he did win then you’d surely hear about it.
When Matt was not busy with one of his favorite pastimes, you could find him hanging out with friends and his wife Jeanette or at home catching the sporting event of the day. Matt was a true Houstonian with his love for the Texans and the Astros. There was also no one more proud to wear his boots to the Houston rodeo.
Matt will be remembered as an amazing husband, brother, son and friend, but most of all he will be remembered as a best friend to so many. His genuine kindness and love of life will never be forgotten.
In honor of Matt, a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 6:00pm – 8:30pm at The Dunlavy, 3422 Allen Pkwy, Houston, TX 77019. In consideration for Matt’s family, please RSVP if you plan to attend by sending an email to CelebrationforMatt@gmail.com.
